Hempel Expands R&D Center in Barcelona

Hempel officially opened a new R&D center at a ceremony on January 13 in Barcelona. The newly expanded center will enable Hempel to develop and customize products faster, respond to customer needs more efficiently and help customers conform to rapidly changing environmental legislation. Hempel’s R&D investment program continues with the expansion of its existing laboratory in Spain. The state-of-the-art facility in Polinyà (Barcelona) previously focused on developing Hempel’srange of antifouling coatings and developing products for Spanish customers. Now, after a EUR 2 million expansion project, the R&D Centre will be able to apply its knowledge to support European businesses with protective, decorative and yacht coatings developed specifically to meet European and country legislation. The expansion will also enable Hempel to expand its International Trainee Program. The Polinyà R&D center employs 40 people.
